Happily, as lockdown has eased over the last month or so, we have prepared The Daffodil Barn workshop which has re-opened on 15th September. Do see elsewhere on the website for courses on offer, and next year’s curriculum will be out in a few weeks’ time. We have put the following safety measures in place:
– Reducing class numbers to enable social distancing
– Deep cleaning the room and all equipment before and after courses
– Installing plastic screens to shield between benches
– Providing hand sanitiser, disinfectant sprays and paper towels
If you sign up for a course, the joining instructions will detail what we will be asking attendees to do to help keep the space safe.
For future courses see the course programme on this website and future Newsletters.
If you wish to receive future monthly editions of the Newsletter contact [email protected]
Regrettably it has been decided that all BBV courses in June, July and August 2020 will be cancelled because of the continuing government restrictions during the current pandemic.

Due to recent government announcements regarding COVID-19 and the requirement for social distancing, we regret that all bookbinding courses are cancelled until the end of May. Further announcements will be made if we need to extend this period. Please let us know if you would like us to transfer your names to a course later in the year.
We wish you all good health and for those who have already learnt some bookbinding – keep practicing!
Bound by Veterans is delighted to announce a new supporter of the charity. The Clothworkers Foundation has very kindly made a generous donation to support the bookbinding courses we run.
BBV offers bookbinding tuition to Wounded, Injured and Sick veterans of the services to aid their recovery through its therapeutic benefits, and to help them transition to civilian life by gaining internationally recognised qualifications.
The first to gain this qualification in the UK, Wendy Lagden, earned a Distinction in her C&G Level 3 Bookbinding, and was presented with her Diploma by Captain Alison Towler of the Royal Navy, President of the Association of Wrens on 10th December. As well as being a huge achievement for Wendy, an ex-aircraft engineer in the Royal Navy who was discharged with MS in 2005, this was an important milestone in the history of the charity and we are enormously grateful to our sponsors for their support.
Two students have recently achieved success in City & Guilds bookbinding qualifications at the Bound By Veterans training workshop at Daffodil Barn in Woodborough, near Pewsey, Wiltshire.
Gareth Roberts has gained his Level 1 and 2 certificates in Bookbinding and was presented his certificates by Ali Strachen, the Chairman of the BBV Charity.
Gemma Barnes gained her Level 1 certificate in Bookbinding and was presented with her certificate by Rob Shepherd of Shepherds Bookbinding
This year Armed Forces Day (AFD) took place at Hudson’s Fields in Salisbury on 28-30th June, and the team from Bound by Veterans (BBV) were there to exhibit what we do and explain how bookbinding can help WIS veterans and their families in recovery and rehabilitation.
It was a hot weekend and plenty of families came to take advantage of the entertainment and refreshments on offer. Many of our ‘customers’ were children who had a go at making a small pamphlet binding, or covering a pencil in a decorative paper.
Hopefully we managed to spread the word about what a useful and therapeutic craft bookbinding is in aiding recovery and particularly in assisting those with stress related illnesses.
If you know of anyone who has been discharged from the services through sickness or illness, and who you think might benefit from trying their hand at a fascinating craft, then please ask them to get in touch with us: [email protected]. It’s all free and we would love to hear from them.
Eight personnel took part in our latest introductory session at Tedworth House, where as part of the RRP programme they made a marbled-paper notebook. All were enthusiastic about the lesson and expressed interest in going on to do further bookbinding at the Daffodil Barn workshop in Woodborough. Being only 10 miles away, accommodation and transport can usually be arranged at Tedworth House for those taking the courses at the Barn.
